I finished adding the rest of the screencaps I made of Peak Practice, series 8 to the galleries. I am missing 4 episodes so will hopefully be able to record them when (or if) ITV 3 broadcast series 8 again.

They are half way through series 5 at the moment, but from previous history, there is no guaranteee that they wont suddenly go back to the beginning again. Fingers crossed that they continue to series 9 this time! I will make more screencaps from Series 7 and add them to the galleries. Easy now I can get my photoshop to process them all!

The episode of Holby City that Joseph appeared in, wasn't shown last week as scheduled. My digiguide now says it will be broadcast on April 2nd on UKTV Gold. I hope to be able to get someone to record it again.

Flip from the forum very kindly sent me the Holby City episode "A Time To Kill" that her friend recorded and in which Joseph guest starred. The repeat aired last week on UKTV Gold. Unfortunately (for screencap quality), it was signed episode, so all screencaps have someone in the corner using sign language.

That hasn't stopped me making lots of caps and uploading them to the galleries!

Talk To Me

  • Talk To Me news & media

I was wondering where the publicity was for the new ITV drama Is This Love? Well they changed the name to Talk To Me! And apparently it airs for the press on 22nd of May. Wonder when it will be broadcast publically.

A few press releases are online all mentioning the Ex-Eastender line...

Viewers tuning in to ITV1's forthcoming drama Talk To Me will spot a familiar face among the cast.

Max Beesley plays a DJ who becomes embroiled in a love triangle with the girlfriend (Laura Fraser) of his best friend and producer, played by Joseph Millson - aka EastEnders' Jason James.

The latter thesp, who has made a name for himself on the small screen and on stage, featured in the Walford-based soap as the ex-fiance of Lyn Slater.

His previous credits in soapland include appearances in Holby City and Doctors. However, Peak Practice fans may remember Millson best from his stint in the medical drama as Dr Sam Morgan.

Most recently on TV, the actor popped up in Doctor Who spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Millson has received glowing praise from critics for his theatrical work.

Last year he played Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, and his CV also boasts roles in the RSC's 2004 Spanish Golden Age Season, As You Like It and The Lifted Veil.

The dark haired star also made a splash in the latest Bond movie, playing Carter in Casino Royale, opposite Daniel Craig.

The promo pic is gorgeous!

Joseph very kindly sent me a gorgeous autographed photo for the website today. Thank you so much.

He is still filming Sarah Jane Adventures in Cardiff which he says is good fun. He also says he is very keen to try and get in front of an audience again soon.

Is This Love is definitely now called Talk To Me and Joseph has been told that it will start to air on 3rd June at 9pm on ITV! He saw the first 2 episodes and said they look great.

And apart from spotting a glaring misspelling of his name that I missed completely (sorry), said the site was fantastic.

Talk To Me : The Observer preview

Posted June 10th, 2007 by kls010

  • Talk To Me news & media
  • Talk To Me reviews

Todays Observer has tonight's Talk To Me as pick of the day with a great preview.

THREE INTO TWO WON'T GO

TALK TO ME
ITV1, 9.30PM

W ell done to ITV, who after facing severe criticism earlier on in the year have been slowly overhauling their drama department. Gone (for the most part) are those overwrought star vehicles featuring Sarah Lancashire or Martin Kemp becoming slowly entangled in some improbable murder plot or other. Instead, recent offerings, while not always groundbreaking, have been sharp, savvy and, most importantly, involving.

All of which is true of Talk To Me , Daniel Brocklehurst's new four-part drama about the lives and loves of a lecherous night time DJ (Max Beesley on suitably rogueish form, above). Brocklehurst, who is best known for his work on Shameless , was also behind post office drama Sorted and has an enviable eye for creating believable, grounded if not always likeable characters. Thus it is that Talk To Me plays out almost like a more witty, less smug Cold Feet

Beesley's Mitch is the little boy who never grew up, taking pleasure in his reputation as a love 'em and leave 'em lothario while secretly longing for his best mate Woody's long-term girlfriend Claire. Woody himself seems to be having doubts about his forthcoming wedding to Claire, meanwhile she's just back at work after having had Woody's child and is questioning her life. Also in the mix are Claire's best friend Ally (newly dumped by Mitch) and Mitch's sister Kelly, a harassed teacher with a useless husband and a pupil who just might fancy her.

The lack of originality in this scenario is more than compensated for by a great sense of pace and an intelligent script and even the flaws (Mitch's cocky attitude towards women is irritating rather than endearing; Mitch and Kelly, despite supposedly being siblings, suffer from different-accent-itis; the laid-back Woody is clearly more attractive than the shallow Mitch) are hardly major, given that ultimately you not only believe in these characters, you also can't wait to find out what happens to them next. Sarah Hughes

The Sunday Times has it as the pick of the week but with no photograph of Joseph sadly.

I screencapped episode 1 of Talk To Me and have added them to the galleries. I also managed to trigger the "grey screen of death" (CPU exceeded error) several times when doing so. Many apologies for that.

It isnt serious at all, just too many processes happening at the same time. The site has had 2000 hits in the last 10 days and I should have added the screencaps in smaller bathches to account for it.

Lorna kindly scanned in a photo from the Telagraph magazine at the weekend. Last night's episode was the last one sadly. It will be repeated on Wednesday again if you missed it.

The DVD is released on July 9th and interestingly Amazon have described it as the complete first series! I wonder if there is any hope for another series.

I havent been happy with the screencap quality I have made, from the first 2 recorded episodes. I will wait until the DVD arrives, then re-make and upload them all.

ITV.com has a detailed synopsis available online, of all the episodes. Danny Brocklehurst's web blog for each episode can also be read.

"So, by the end everything is resolved. Not with a pink bow on it, but enough to feel satisfactory. Everyone has ended up in a very different place to where they started."

Flip from the forum acquired a press pack for Talk To Me which was being sold on Ebay! She kindly scanned in the pics and an interview with Joseph , which I have added to the website.
The pack also included some lovely comments about Joseph by other cast and crew members.
Danny Broklehurst said of casting Woody...
"It feels like we saw nearly very thirtysomething actor in the country before - miraculously - happening on Joe Millson. Best known for his work with the RSC, Joe had just the right mix. He's good looking, funny and likeable whilst having heaps of vulnerability."
Laura Fraser said in her interview...

"What have been the most enjoyable scenes to film?

...I enjoyed doing the one on one scenes with Max, Joseph, Emma and Kelly individually. Although, Joseph and I had to make ourselves stop laughing most of the time! "
And Max Beesley...
"What about Woody and Claire's relationship?

They're in a long term relationship and they've almost lost their way and lost sight of each other. They do absolutely love each other, it's just that their relationship has become vulnerable. Joe plays it heartbreakingly. "

Lots of publicity now for SJA.

The official website has been updated with character infomation. This is what is said about Joseph's character, Alan Jackson:

Alan is Maria's sympathetic, caring and very understanding father. He has a brilliantly easy going, and casual relationship with Maria, which Sarah Jane would love yo emulate with Luke.
That doesnt meant he still doesnt do embarassing Dad stuff though. The odd ruffle of the hair, and the insistance of a goodbye peck on the cheek before school is enough to make anyone cringe. Working in the IT industry, and recently divorced from Maria's mum, Alan leads a pretty surburban life. Little does he know that his 14 year old daughter and her friends are secretly helping to defend the earth from alien activity. If he ever found out, would he jump in and help out or take Maria as far away as possible?

I have made screencaps from Episodes 1&2 of the Sarah Jane Adventures and will add them later to the gallery.

The Outpost Gallifrey posted that:

The first episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures achieved a rating of 1.3 million viewers, an 11% share of the audience. This is much higher than CBBC programmes usually get in this slot.
Last Monday, Escape from Scorpion Island got 0.9 million. In the children's chart, the programme was the 6th most watched of the day with an audience of 0.5 million which was a 29.8% share.
Over on CBBC the second episode was watched by 0.44 million making the programme the most watched of the day on CBBC and the 7th most watched programme on multi channel television.

The reviews for the show were very positive. Telegraph, TV Scoop and Guardian Blogs all loved it, although there was no mention of Joseph.
Amusingly, the Outpost Gallifrey forum has an active *gay dad* thread going on.

Talk To Me : controversy

Posted September 28th, 2007 by kls010

  • Talk To Me news & media

Digital Spy reported that ITV were let off for 'inappropriate' poster.

The Advertising Standards Authority received a number of complaints about posters promoting ITV drama Talk to Me, which they claimed were "offensive and inappropriate" One poster showed two men and one woman with the line: "My best friend and my life. She's screwed them both." Another showed the same characters with the line: "I would do anything for my best friend, including his wife."

The ITV drama, shown in May, starred Max Beesley as a DJ caught in an illicit love triangle between his best friend and his best friend's wife. Eight people complained about the use of the word "screwed" in the first ad, and all ten complainants said both ads were "offensive and inappropriate in a medium that could be seen by children."

ITV responded, saying the ads were meant to "set up the love triangle and portray the desire felt by the main protagonist." The broadcaster added that the word "screwed" was chosen to emulate the intensity of the other man's anger and to "portray the racy tone of the show. " The ASA noted that the double meaning of the word "do" was unlikely to be understood by young children, but that some adults would find the use of the word "screwed" distasteful.

However, it ruled that because the ads contained no sexual images, it considered they were unlikely to cause serious or widespread offence, and were not inappropriate in a medium that could be seen by children. The complaints were therefore not upheld.

Some reviews of the first 2 episodes of SJA.

The Stage
: This is so deliciously, joyously, entertaining it makes me feel 9 years old all over again. Considering today’s news about Ofcom’s findings on the state of children’s television, this little gem proves that the talent is there, and with the right investment, well made, entertaining children’s drama can be made.

The Herald
: A new Doctor Who spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures constitutes a minor betrayal of the long-established values pertaining to the Tardis and all those who have ever sailed across the centuries in her, but it's nevertheless an enjoyable telly experience for all that.

TV Scoop
: No, it's not Doctor Who, but Elisabeth Sladen and the children are all great, it's had a bit of money put into it, and it's giving the kids what they want - while giving the adults what they want, too.

Sadly the last of the SJA series on BBC1 today. The Stage blog summed it up nicely.

"The season finale of what has been a quite brilliant series. They say children’s TV is dead, but this gem provides a glimmer of hope for the future. Some old enemies are causing problems for the legendary heroine and her gang of teen sidekicks, but the biggest problem comes from an old friend (no, not that one). And watch for the air punch moment at the end with a brilliant cameo appearance. Don’t be away for long, Sarah."
