Details about filming Banished in Australia last year have been shared on The Location Guide. Read it in full on the website. This behind the scenes photo was shared by Joseph on Instagram. 

“Banished is fictional and doesn’t depict actual events,” explains Simon Hailey, a co-producer on the shoot with RSJ Films. “However, historically, the First Fleet settled in Sydney Cove, which is now Circular Quay, so Sydney always seemed to be the natural spiritual home for the location shoot. Plus our co-production partners, See-Saw Films, are based in Sydney and the local crew is fantastically talented and professional.”

The Radio Times has shared photos of some of the main cast, sadly not including Joseph, and also some begind the scenes photos, which do include Joseph! The BBC media pack has more information about creating 1788 Australia for the small screen.

The task of bringing Australia, 1788, to life fell to directors Daniel Percival and Jeffrey Walker and their crews. The first decision that was made was that the production would be split - all of the exteriors would be shot on location, in Sydney, Australia, and thereafter the production would return to Manchester to film the interiors.

The BBC has shared a media pack for Banished, which begins on March 5th, and it contains the first promo shot of Joseph Millson as Major Ross, along with an interview with him.

Who is Major Ross?

A recent interview with Banished creator Jimmy McGovern for the Radio Times mentions the new series.

However, McGovern adds that he is intensely pleased with his new BBC2 drama Banished, about the first British convicts to settle in Australia, which he wrote without a collaborator. Set in 1787, it stars Russell Tovey (Being Human), MyAnna Buring (Ripper Street), Julian Rhind-Tutt (The Hour) and Rory McCann (Game Of Thrones).

RadioTimes.com understands that a March or April broadcast date is being mooted for Banished, although McGovern would have preferred a February time slot. “I want it to be shown when it is as cold as possible," he said, "you can really feel the heat of it then."

According to the Radio Times and The Times, Banished could be broadcast March or April 2015.
